The Linden tree: my sleep bud

Le Tilleul : mon bourgeon du sommeil

This month, we're focusing on the theme of "sleep," and the key bud related to this issue is none other than Linden bud macerate! Want to learn more about its benefits?

Origin of the Linden Tree

Tilia tomentosa

The linden tree is found in the countryside, along roadsides, and in parks and gardens, which it beautifully adorns with its tall stature (30 to 35 meters maximum) and rapid growth. It can live for centuries. In the garden, the linden needs sun and a well-ventilated space. It appreciates cool, deep, and even chalky soils.

It's a beautiful, imposing tree, yet delicate. It has a "comforting" quality, a bit like a gentle and protective grandmother.

Symbolism of the linden tree

The Catholic Church used the linden tree as a symbol of the heart, representing the "Sacred Heart." This is why linden trees are still often found around religious buildings: churches, chapels, wayside crosses, etc.

The linden leaf, by its shape, is associated with the heart and all its symbolism, thus explaining the connection between Love, Fidelity, and Justice. It is the "Tree of Love." Furthermore, speaking of the "heart," linden macerate is a good antispasmodic that helps with conditions such as tachycardia and extrasystoles (heart rhythm disturbances).

The French Revolution of 1789 also revived the positive image of the linden tree among the population: in many towns, the " tree of liberty " planted on that occasion was a linden tree.

The linden tree, often referred to as the "Feminine Tree," frequently plays a vital role in myths, tales, legends, and the customs of various peoples. This tree, whose bark is used by humans as textile fiber or for rope, is by extension a symbolic "Tree of Connections," representing community and the bonds between individuals.

Finally, the components of its bark, sapwood, leaves and flowers are used in the preparation of numerous medicinal remedies and make our linden the king of "Medicine Trees".

Benefits of Linden macerate

Action of Linden buds on the nervous system and the psyche

Well known for its calming action, the mother macerate of Linden buds is indicated in all cases of insomnia, especially in children (mild hypnotic).

It is the ideal pediatric remedy and will even be nicknamed the "sandman's" macerate.

Linden macerate has a regulatory effect on the nervous system; it helps to promote sleep and also to increase its duration.

It is also suitable for people whose nervous systems have been under considerable strain. In life's challenges, social or professional demands, nerves are tested and certain disorders emerge: difficulty concentrating, insomnia, anxiety, and various obsessions. Linden helps gradually to regain balance and calm. Similarly, it is effective for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) as a complement to appropriate therapy, and also for spasmophilia (often called hyperventilation syndrome or panic attack, which encompasses a range of symptoms related to anxiety: cramps, dizziness, hyperventilation, etc.).

Action of Linden buds on metabolism

Regular intake of linden bud macerate helps detoxify the body, primarily by reducing cholesterol, uric acid, and urea, thus relieving gout. By acting on nervous system patterns and general bodily functions, such as elimination, linden bud can support weight loss efforts.

Action of Linden buds on the digestive system

Since the digestive and nervous systems are very closely linked, linden has anti-inflammatory properties on the digestive tract and helps to combat chronic inflammatory syndromes such as gastritis, spasmodic colitis, esophageal dysphagia, gastroesophageal reflux or colic in babies, for example.

Usage tips

Adults and teenagers

  • Sleep : 1 to 5 drops in the evening at bedtime (gradually increase the number of drops up to a maximum of 15 to avoid experiencing the opposite effect).
  • Detox : 5 to 15 drops once in the morning
  • Urea or cholesterol : 5 drops 3 times a day
  • Babies - children : One drop per day per year of age in a small glass of water (or 1 drop in the bottle for babies).

Contraindications

Linden macerate has no contraindications or side effects , except in the case of an overdose. An overdose manifests as the opposite effect (excitation or insomnia). In such cases, simply reduce the number of drops.

Association of buds?

Linden and fig are often combined for their stress-relieving properties . Indeed, these two macerated oils work in different ways. Fig prepares the body for better sleep, while linden promotes sleep onset. Fig helps regulate the nervous system during the day, and linden provides a more profound calming effect.
